The Sixth Form were thrilled to welcome Dr Nicola Annels, a leading cancer research scientist to Ullswater Community College on Thursday 24th September. Dr Annels is a research fellow at the University of Surrey where she leads the immunotherapy program. She spoke about her life, her career and the pioneering work her team is carrying out. This new approach to cancer treatment, using the body's own immune system to fight cancerous cells has featured this year in global news stories and formed the basis of a fascinating talk. The sixth form students were joined by Year 10 and Year 11 scientists. Dr Annels was an eloquent and knowledgeable speaker and a great role model for the students. We hope this will be the start of a close relationship between the Sixth Form and the University of Surrey.
