Last week, KS5 ASDAN Employability group took part in a successful weeks work experience at Booths, Happy Hooves riding centre, British Heart Foundation shop and Musgrave Hall Farm. All the students thoroughly enjoyed the week and have completed the unit 'learning through work'. We are very grateful to the members of the community for offering supportive placements.
Our A level Biology students travelled down to London to participate in a revision conference focusing on exam technique and the changes to the new reformed A levels. With an overnight hotel stay as part of the trip, the students were refreshed and ready for a day listening to keynote speeches from senior examiners and experienced teachers.
As Branch Out draws to a close, a big shout out to all three of our Branch Out Alumni Illustrators who ran workshops for students across the school as part of the competition. All three artists offered different styles and skills to our students who loved the opportunities. Thanks to Emily Whiteford, Beccy Frost and Catherine Bell.
Yesterday, 22 year 8 students had the exciting opportunity to participate in a 3 hour long workshop with Kelly McLelland from the Centre of Advanced Training(CAT). The workshop gave them an insight into how the Manchester-based programme runs, allowing them to take part in both a technique and a creative workshop. The students were a credit to the school and showed enthusiasm and passion for dance. This will hopefully encourage some of our students to audition for the CAT scheme in June.

Alongside being a GCSE dance student, Daniel's hard work and passion for the subject have enabled him to gain a place on the 'The Lowry Centre of Advanced Training Scheme' based in Manchester. After a tough audition, Daniel was selected to be part of the scheme last September and is involved in regular performances at various different venues both in Cumbria and the North West of England. Daniel is also part of Eden Youth Dance, a fantastic platform for young dancers to be part of performances within Eden. An excellent achievement.
The Sixth Form students were delighted to welcome Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron to their tutor period this week. With a wide ranging and robust debate on a variety of topics from school funding and sixth form transport to Brexit and the Action on Climate Change protests, our students relished the opportunity to discuss current affairs with a member of parliament. They really appreciated the time Mr Farron took to visit them in a busy week for parliament.
