KEY STAGE 3
French and Italian are introduced as the first foreign languages in Year 7. In Years 8 and 9 pupils are set by ability. Students are given the opportunity to travel abroad: to La Rochelle in Years 7 and 8, and to Venice in Year 9.
KEY STAGE 4
Key Stage 4 pupils have the option of continuing with either language or both to the full GCSE course. We follow the new AQA and Edexcel syllabus. We also offer beginners’ German and Polish as part of our new curriculum enrichment.
In the Sixth Form students can continue with French, Italian or both to AS/A-level standard and are entered for the AQA syllabus in French and the Edexcel syllabus in Italian. Students have permanent access to the Language ICT suite.
MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGES IN THE WIDER COMMUNITY
We have regular trips to France and Italy. We have started an exchange of pen friends in KS4 and KS5. There is a KS4 and KS5 Cine Club on Monday lunchtimes. There is also a Spanish club on Thursday lunchtimes from 12.45 through to 13.30pm.
