In the History Department at Ullswater Community College we aim to ensure each student leaves their History education with a firm knowledge of the events and individuals who have shaped the world today. Further to this we impart some very valuable skills regarding the analysis and evaluation of information, contributing to the College’s Business and Enterprise specialism. History is an excellent opportunity for students to exercise their minds - not just memorise dates and facts but learn how to handle their knowledge and critically judge it.
KEY STAGE 3
During Key Stage 3 students undertake a journey through the last 1000 years of History. In Year 7 students will move through the Middles Ages, experiencing life as a conquered peasant in 1066 before moving through to Tudor and Stuart England. Year 8 introduces students to life in England during the Civil War, the Industrial Revolution and finally the Slave Trade. Year 9 is then a passage through the 20th Century, before finishing with life in the American West.
KEY STAGE 4
The department offers a Modern World History course which allows students to take an academic pathway to future success.
The A-Level course offered by the History Department provides a truly academic option with high uptake at both the A/S and A2 stages. Students are provided with a diverse course that covers a breadth of topics and time periods.
