WELCOME TO THE GEOGRAPHY DEPARTMENT
The Geography Department at Ullswater Community College aims to create knowledgeable, enthusiastic and successful young geographers. Helping you to develop a good understanding of your world, along with many of the modern skills that will help you to do well in the future, is central to everything that we do.
KEY STAGE 3
During Years 7, 8 and 9 we focus on training you to find and use different types of geographical information. A range of units have been carefully designed to help introduce you to the geography of people, places and issues from around the UK and the rest of the world.
KEY STAGE 4
Many students continue with their studies in Geography at GCSE (
OCR B). Building upon your development of geographical knowledge and a range of academic and life skills, you will study four geographical themes and learn how to interpret information, explore current issues and make important decisions that affect different people.
A LEVEL
A number of students take
Geography at AS and A2 level (
WJEC). They work independently and together to study a range of physical and human topics in addition to producing individual projects based upon data that they have collected themselves. Some of our students then move on to study at university.
GEOGRAPHY IN THE WIDER COMMUNITY
Students make visits to Penrith, the Eden Valley and the west coast of Cumbria to study the geography of those places and collect data for personal and group projects.
