On a typically Cumbrian icy morning twenty four sixth formers studying a range of subjects made the annual pilgrimage down to London to further understand the workings of the British Democratic system. After an adventurous journey they settled in at the Ramada hotel in the docklands and spent the evening completing a “citizenship quiz” which continued late in to the evening.

 

 

After a massive breakfast the students spent an informative four hours at the Imperial War Museum. Notable highlights were the photographic exhibition of Don McCullin, The Holocaust exhibition and the trench warfare experience.

 

The group then moved on to the “glass pineapple” the home of the London Assembly and Boris Johnson. The education officer gave the group an interesting insight in to its working. Staff and students were allowed to sit in the inner sanctum of the elected body. The views both inside and outside were truly memorable.

 

The final visit of the day took us around the Houses of Parliament to look at the second tier of government in the UK.

The group then toured the sights of London before returning for a well earned rest in their hotel. After a tiring three days the group arrived safely back at school on Saturday evening.
