21 Students left UCC heading to Shropshire. After a 3 and a half hour journey we arrived at the spectacular location of Condover Hall! The weekend aim was to develop students’ confidence in netball, their competitive play and team work.

Over the weekend we participated in a netball tournament against 6schools from across the UK. Thankfully the weather was blue skies and no rain! The year 8 teamplayed 8 games in total winning 2 and losing 6. They played some really good Netball and their development throughout the tournament was fantastic. Despite losing 6 fixtures the girls always battled and only lost each game by a few goals. The two games they did win were extremely convincing, 5-1 and 7-0. Our StarShooterswho were superb throughout, Alice Addison and Leanne Mair!The overall ‘Player of the Tournament’ was awarded to our Goal Keeper, Beth Luck who never gave up with herdefending, making it extremely difficult for every shooter she came up against.

The year 9 and 10 students had a super first day in the tournament and won 2 out of their 3 games. Day 2 was a little tougher and the girls lost the next 2 fixtures. However UCC girls pulled it together and managed to get to the semi-finals against Wigan who had won every game they played. Unfortunately the girls lost the semi-final, but really stepped upto the challenge and competed heroically. ‘Player of the Tournament’ went to the superb Meg Wilson who also played Goal Keeper.

The weekend wasn’t just focused on Netball, during the day the girls were allowed to participate in various outdoor adventurous activities inbetween fixtures. This included fencing, archery, trapeze, gladiator wall and absailing. The girls favourite had to be ‘Body Zorbing’ and they had the bruises to show for it. In the evening we attended the JCA silent disco, campfirelazermaze and went tunnelling.

Overall the girls and staff had a brilliant time; the netballers played fantastically well showing great team work and sportsmanship. The whole group were outstanding ambassadors for UCC extremely polite, fun and a pleasure to take away.
