From Sea to Summit – To examine Mans impact on the Snowdonia environment.
Day one – Very misty & overcast, set off from Bontnewydd, over Drum summit, Foel Fras & Garnedd Uchaf. Climbed 1000m of ascent & 14.6 km. We wild camped at Cwm Eigau.
Day 2 – Walk out of wild camp to Eilio, Dolgarrog, Garreg wen, past Cowlyd Reservior, Dolwyddelan to Tirion camp site, where we could have a shower! 22.5 km but only 460 meters of ascent today. Fine morning & very wet afternoon.
Day 3 – Walked from camp site to Pen-y-rhiw, Coed-mawr, Hafod-y-llan, Ty-hen,Cwm-clak-Isaf, Meillronen. Went to look at the famous Beddgellerts grave. Camped at Bryn Tirlon campsite Beddgellert. Walked 25km & 280 m of ascent. Weather fine & dry.
Day 4 – The big one ….weather slightly overcast, but we have got the ok to walk up Snowdon. We are so pleased as this has been our goal since starting out on our D of E. The walk up was lovely, clear most of the way with fantastic views. We reached the top in shrouds of mist. It was fantastic after all the effort snce year 9, a real achievment. We made our way back down to meet our assessor who passed us all with flying colours & have some well earned grub in the famous café Pete's eats.
The worst thing was the midges, the best thing was finishing on the top of Snowdon.
