Child Development

Key Stage 4

CACHE Level 1/2 Award in Child Development and Care is an introduction to childcare and development for children aged 0-5 years. The course develops knowledge and understanding of child development and well-being when preparing for working with children in a variety of settings, including nursery or primary schools, day nurseries, children’s centres and hospitals.

This qualification will cover a range of skills including an understanding of roles and responsibilities when working in a setting, an understanding of equality and diversity, the stages and sequence of child development and an introduction to everyday care routines and the types of activities that can support the development of independence.

Key Stage 5

You can undertake the CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Early Years Education and Care (EYE) at Key Stage 5.  This course of study will prepare you to become an early years educator (EYE) so you can work with children from birth to 5 years old, and gain knowledge of children aged 5–7 years. Most students progress to university whilst others gain high quality employment in the community.
The areas you cover on this course include:
• health and well-being
• legislation, frameworks and professional practice
• play, development and learning for school readiness
• professional development

You learn through practical activities, written work and work placements. The placements – at local early years providers – are arranged through the college.
