GOVERNORS
The Governing Body at Ullswater Community College consists of two representatives appointed by the Local Authority, four Partnership Governors and three Community Governors who are appointed by other members of the Governing Body, seven Parent Governors who are elected by a ballot of all parents and four Staff Governors who are elected by the staff of the College.
We meet as a full Governing Body six times a year. In addition, there are two sub-committees namely: Curriculum & Staffing and Finance & Resource, which also meet on a regular basis. This means that the Governors have a wide and informed view of the work of the College, and through this the Governors ensure that the college meets its responsibilities to carry out its future commitments. Each governor is a link Governor. Link Governors monitor the work of particular departments or areas of the College on behalf of the full Governing Body.
The Governors of Ullswater Community College have established a strategic plan to develop an approach that provides academic, vocational and technological courses to meet the needs of our student community and thereby encourage the majority of students to remain in full-time education until they reach the age of 18 years. Our specialist role as a Business and Enterprise College focuses on encouraging the established strategic aims. This plan involves the following actions:
- Ullswater Community College will challenge and stretch all students so that they can reach their potential. We will expect more students to aim for higher education in the twenty-first century. We hope all students will continue into post-16 education or training
- Ullswater Community College has established a wide ranging provision offering academic, vocational and technological courses. Our programmes are designed to encourage breadth and balance so that the individual options remain open for as long as possible
- We will continue to expect the best of each student in our challenging, caring and comprehensive community. We are confident that our college will provide the best possible preparation for the changes and challenges of life in the twenty-first century
We aim to ensure that the college plays a full and active role in the wider community and to ensure that our students become responsible members of society. The Governing Body of Ullswater Community College is hugely proud of this unique institution, of its people and what they have collectively achieved. Governors are actively involved in supporting the college in as many ways as they can and contribute significantly to the great strides forward that are currently being made.
